Kyivan Rus' Period

Kyvian Rus’ start of getting it name from city called Kyiv where it was located spread from the Black Sea to the White Sea, also to the Carpathians through the Volga River. Being close to the water it gave the people easy access to do trades by water which made Kyvian Rus’s people a great income and also protect the them from enemies. Also living so close to the water gave them a well develops land for agriculture, so trading was easy to access and to distribute to others.

The Kyvian Rus’ went though many ruler that brought devastation and peaceful ruling during this period. The first ruler were Askold and Dyr but in 882 Prince Olen attacked and was destroyed them. Prince Olen after defeating the Khazars , he did not stop this higher hand luck and he conquered Constantinople. He also made a great trading agreement that built a strong relationship with Byzantine Empire. Prince Ihor was next in line to rule kyvian Rus’s where he married princess Olha they rule till 945 when prince Ihor was killed. Princess Olha took over the rule till her son was of age to take the throne but while she was in rule she converted to Christianity and hope that her son would follow her foot step. When she finally took over in 962 sons Prince Sviatoslav didn’t follow his mother foot step but still brought peace to his people. Now the one that did follow Princess Olha was her grandson Prince Volodymyr who not only converts to Christianity which he brought his people to convert and baptized. After the death Yaroslav the wise rule in 1054 the line keeps moving down till there was three son split the land and through 1125 though 1132. Soon after the mongol attack and destroy the great work that this line as built for their people.

Prince Volodymyr the Great

Prince Volodymyr was the son of Prince Sviatoslav. Princess Olha was the first ruler to convert to Christianity and hope that once her son came to rule that he would follow her lead. Even though her son didn’t, her grandson Prince Volodymyr did convert to Christianity. Now he may have done it because he wanted to marry the emperor of Byzantine daughter Princess Anna and also gain respect from the Byzantine because the people thought that the slav were barbarian. Which in the end the Princess Anna realizes that they were not barbarian and decided to married Prince Volodymyr in which earns the respect he seeks from her.

The Slav religion was Pagan but when Prince Volodymyr converts to Christian he made it the official religion and had the people also converts and baptized. Some of the people still had belief of pagan but had to hide it for the prince wanted all that involve of pagan burn and 400 Christian churches to his state build. When Prince Volodymyr died, his son Prince Yaroslav the wise rule took over. Volodymyr soon became a saint and also known as “Great, Equal to the Apostles” and also called Prince Volodymyr the great.

The Slavic tribes


Kyiv became the political center of the Eastern Slavs. The Slavic people were divided in West Slavic, East Slavic, And South Slavic. First starting with the West Slavic was the population consists of the polish, Slovak and Czech, and Sorbian. The East Slavic population of Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarusian. The last tribe was the south Slavic that was populated with Slovene, Serbo-Croatian, Bulgarian, and Macedonian. The East Slavic brought a leader from another tribe to come a lead them under the ruled by Prince Oleg in the state Kyiv. Eastern slavic came together to a place that brought many of the divided tribe together called Kyivan Rus’. In this time The Eastern Slav invited Oleg to lead their people, some say he was a Swedish Viking and some believe that he was actually a Slavic. Prince Oleg brought the different tribe together under his rule at the state of Kyiv Rus’. In the end Prince Ihor son Prince Sviatoslav brought more tribe that was still not a part of the state together under the now of the powerful state.

Modern times through the 20th century

Ukrainian and their homeland as gone through century of different ruler and harsh leader when they first received their independence in 1917, it was soon taken away from them by the attack of the Soviet Union. In this battle Ukraine face a lost and again in 1921 the Ukraine witness another separation between the east and west Ukraine by the Soviet Union, Poland, Romania and Czechoslovakia. The worse soon came to Ukraine in1924 when Joseph Stalin came in power and brought with him the method collectivization and brought famine into the country that was know to Europe as the breadbasket of Europe. Finally the nightmare came to an end when Stalin died in 1953 and a new era started called the Thaw and a new leader named Nikita Khrushchev. In this era, Khrushchev was more accept of the Ukraine’s culture and language. In 1986 a tragic disaster came to the Ukraine when a nuclear plant called Chornobly had one of their unite exploded leasing out radioactive chemical in the air and land throughout Europe, Canada and United States.

Ukraine went through many obstacles in the past to get to this point where on August 24th 1991; Ukraine received their independence from the Soviet Union. Ukraine can finally be able to show their true colors on their own flag, which hang blue and Yellow to the whole world as they are know free people that are allow to speak the language they chose and to take back they culture that they are so proud of. They have found their voice and they will not settle for anything less anymore.

Solomiya Krushelnytska

Solomiya Krushelnytska 23, 1872 in Biliavyntsy in the region called Podillia where she sang in the choir. Her beautiful music brought people to her and begs her to sing more so they don’t have to face reality, instead be in a place where her voice swims though their body to end deep in their souls. She breathed and eats music while she was younger that made her love music and didn’t waste time on anything else but music. Soon she took her heart beat rhythm of music to L’viv conservatory where she graduated in 1893 with medal and honors. Taking her music to another level, she moved to Milan and became the leading lady called prima donna in Lviv, Warsaw and the famous La Scala in Milan. She even took her musical talents on tour through Europe, overseas to America and performed on many famous stages and different composer of different nation.

She soon had her focus set on family and after a wonderful three years of fame settle back and married Cesare Ricchoni in 1910. While giving up her performance on stage as an opera singer, she could not give up singing and in 1920-she start to do a concert tours. Using her broad knowledge of eight languages, she used them in her concert tour that she started up; this gives her the ability to take selection songs from different nation and use them in her concert tours. In 1939 a tragic death of her husband sent her on another path in teaching back in Lviv at her old school Lviv conservatory. Being so talented she was promoted in 1952 as a full time professor. She passed away on November 16, 1952 and soon the voice of Solomiya became a wonderful, powerful memory to those that had the honor of hearing and watching her incredible performances and teachings.

The Orange Revolution in Ukraine

The Orange Revolution slit Ukraine, on one half we have the first candidate was Viktor Yushchenko who is being supported by the agricultural western part of Ukraine and second candidate was Viktor Yanukovych who was supported by the Industrialized Eastern part Ukraine. On November 21, 2004 they announce that Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych was the winner brought angry and disbelief to the people. The people could not accept this win; they believe that the supporters did everything they could to get the votes on their side which brought torturing or even if it meant to destroy some of the ballots boxes. The people wanted justice to be done and for Yushchenko take his rightful place as the winner. Which result in 200,000 people that began to pour into Kiev’s independence square demand for the recognition that was denied by the people, which resulted in the Orange Revolution. The Stand in the square for 6days of peaceful protesting and the encouraging word that came from yushenko, finally end after a year of discussion between the parliament declared that the result of the polls where false and to redo the votes. In the end Yushchenko won. The people cheer while their dream comes to reality when the announced Viktor Yushchenko as the president of Ukraine.
